Music is medicine for our souls and just as a gourmet recipe is written, music can be organized into musical prescriptions to cure a variety of disorders.
Music Therapy is not as simple as taking a CD, playing it and magically your cured. There are many disciplines involved in the study of the effects of music on the listener. Cognitive theory studies how music is perceived by the listener and how cognitive schemata (basic element of thinking) are activated when listening to music.
By itself music will not be considered medicine, even though a type of music called “Healing Music” can be soothing and provide many positive side effects which contribute to a better quality of life. For the person with very minor ailments healing music has been sufficient and its side effects have been very motivating.
If you consider yourself to have minor ailments you could experience such benefits as:
