Do You Know The Benefits To Play Music During Family Time?

With today’s busy lifestyle, do you take time out for you and your family?

Family time doesn’t appear to be at the top of the priority list anymore – video games, text messages, tv programs, all seem to have taken over our generation.

Yesterday, I was into our local health food store, checking out some new products, when I couldn’t help but over hear one of the customers.

She was talking about family time being a thing of the past, and that no one seems to value this anymore. During the conversation she mentioned how she has always kept at least one night out of the week for family time, whether it be to play games, discussions on various topics or just simply watching a favorite show together.

As her family grew older, the era of time changed as well, the family was no longer
interested in sitting together and continuing on with the tradition of family night. The
kids were more interested in sitting around talking to friends on their cell phones, text messaging, or listening to their music on their IPOD or MP3′s.

She went on to say, that since her children loved music so much, they made a plan to incorporate music into their family nights. Not only was it an attempt to make
things more fun and interesting; it was also to get an idea of what kind of music their children were interested in and listening to.

Each family night one member showcased their favorite musician and style of music. After each person had their turn, there would be a family night of trivia regarding the different music that everyone had been introduced to.

Friends and neighbors heard about the family night. As the kids grew older, they would ask if their friends could come over and participate. Before too long, many of the neighbors had become involved and this became a weekly event.

A few months ago, one of the neighbors had his turn to present his style of music. He brought music that was strickly instrumental. The woman was really impressed as it put a whole different atmosphere in the room. To her surprise even the teenagers were enjoying the music presentation as it was not dull and boring, it was upbeat, rhythmic and relaxing. The neighbor called the music “Healing Music”.

This gentlemen mentioned his kids use Healing Music when they are studying schoolwork, working out, or when kid drama takes over. It all started for his family when his daughter developed severe teenage anxiety. His daughter started seeing a psychologist, who had resently began a coaching program involving music therapy, and relaxation techniques.

The coaching program encouraged the family to become involved in the music therapy. The purpose for involving everyone was to teach the benefits of this kind of music on everyone’s physical and mental health whether they were ill or not. The results were amazing.

The family discovered that the healing music helped each one of them in a different way for example: it improved the over all mood of the individuals, helped with studying, relaxing, creativity, enhanced focus, improved concentration, to alleviate depression and anxiety, improved sleeping pattern.

The benefits that are noted here are from a group point of view. Not everyone experienced all the above, it varied from person to person. Like with anything, results may vary, however, everyone did experience benefits.
