Can You Benefit From a Dog Relaxation CD?

This past Sunday we decided as a family we needed to get out of the house and go for a drive to the beach. After all we were starting to go stir crazy, as this past week we have had to prepare for Hurricane Bill and right behind that system was tropical storm Danny. What next?
We decided since there was no room for the family pets, Rex and Benji, they would stay home and keep each other company. When we leave them alone most times we play a dog relaxation cd as this seems to help them stay calm.
There are times we have had other cd’s (regular music), leaving the TV on, or playing the radio and while they each have benefits of keeping Rex and Benji occupied, there seems to be more of a benefit with the Dog Relaxation Cd.
Some of these benefits we have noticed when playing the Dog Relaxation Cd include:
- Less hyper once we arrive back home
- Very few messes such as toys scattered all over the place
- Dog food is not spilled all over the kitchen floor
- The couch cushions are still in place – there have been times when they would have the cushions on the floor like a 3 year old child.
The biggest benefit is they are less hyper once we get home. The habit we have always maintained is once we are home we leave the music on for a short period before turning it off. It is very relaxing music to listen to.

That is a very interesting question and one I can answer from experience. Our dog sleeps with our youngest son therefore quite some time ago he decided to use the dog relaxation music to get our dog to sleep. The next day after doing this he told us it was the best sleep he (our son) has ever had in a long time. To this day he uses this and similar music for himself as well as the dog.

There are so many variables that could sway an answer in so many different directions however sometimes it really comes down to a personal preference. We have had some people tell us they prefer certain country music pieces to help them relax into a state of rest. It depends on what outcome you are looking for – what do you expect to get out of the musical experience.
